Organizational Change Management

Your initiative already has a vision, direction and intended results. The challenge is aligning the people, decisions, communications, learning and operational changes needed to deliver them.

Organizational change management (OCM) is a specialist advisory practice within Studio H Canada. We build a dedicated OCM function around your context, internal capacity, risks and delivery environment. Working alongside your team, we connect change leadership, engagement, communications, learning, readiness, adoption and sustainment with project delivery from the beginning.

Led by Heidi Bergstrom, the practice brings senior public-sector and consulting experience across health, technology, procurement, service transformation and cultural infrastructure.

Built around your context

We start with the knowledge, relationships and capacity already present in your organization. Our role is to add perspective, structure and delivery capacity where it is useful, while helping internal teams strengthen the tools and confidence needed to carry the work forward.

Our integrated plans use an ADKAR-informed backbone to connect organizational activity with the individual experience of change. The framework supports the work; it does not replace judgment, relationships or attention to context.

Integrated, multidisciplinary function

Organizational change is not a separate workstream to bolt on after key decisions have been made. We integrate OCM with governance, project planning, implementation and operations so leaders and teams can see what is changing, what decisions are needed and how adoption will be supported and sustained.

Depending on the initiative, the function can bring together an accountable OCM lead with expertise in sponsorship and governance, engagement, change readiness analysis, communications, learning, client and user experience, business analysis, project and implementation planning, HR/workforce and organizational design, measurement, including realistic measures, and sustainment.

The model can be dedicated, distributed or hybrid. Roles, decision paths and ways of working are made explicit so the function operates as one coherent team rather than a collection of disconnected activities.

Experience with complex change

Selected examples show how this work has been applied across health systems, strategic procurement, enterprise technology and cultural infrastructure.

Provincial health-system adoption

At the time, approximately one million people in British Columbia did not have a primary care provider. The Salesforce-based Provincial Attachment System and Health Connect Registry needed to support patients seeking care while also enabling family physicians and nurse practitioners to adopt a new provincial process.

Heidi designed a coordinated, two-sided OCM model. She led the provider-adoption work with Doctors of BC and the Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC and established the Health Connect Registry OCM team for the patient-facing side. The work involved more than 10 agencies. Adoption and learning activities reached more than 1,000 medical office assistants and 500 clinicians, achieved 92 percent satisfaction and contributed to a 25 percent increase in portal adoption among physicians and nurse practitioners over five weeks.

Outcomes-based procurement and sustainment

The Province was not simply replacing an existing Health Insurance BC contract. Through a $300-million-plus strategic re-procurement, it was seeking substantial transformation in technology, service delivery and the relationship between the Province and its service provider under the Vested® collaborative-contracting model.

As the Province’s OCM Lead, Heidi designed the full-cycle organizational change and readiness approach from procurement through transition, cutover and sustainment. The work engaged more than 300 stakeholders across 13 ministry program areas, coordinated change teams across the ministry and successful proponent consortium, and produced the first Vested® Sustainment Framework for the new operating relationship. Training for Province and operations staff reflected the contract’s desired outcomes and Vested® principles. Workshops reached almost 300 staff, with check-out satisfaction results ranging from 85 to 90 percent.

Enterprise technology and collaborative contracting

For a major provincial government technology re-procurement, the client needed to transform both the technology services and the working relationship between government and the service provider. The contract adopted a collaborative-contracting approach that required new roles, behaviours, decision paths and ways of working.

Heidi designed the OCM relationship model and wrote the OCM schedule directly into the contract so change responsibilities were established before implementation began. This work builds on her earlier leadership of an enterprise ServiceNow transformation affecting more than 30,000 public-service employees and her experience supporting strategic technology-contract transitions across government and private-sector delivery partners.

Cultural infrastructure, governance and community mobilization

Heidi serves in a leadership role with the Islands Arts and Culture Land Trust of BC Society, helping advance the $12.4-million acquisition and redevelopment of 722 Johnson Street in Victoria, a major cultural-infrastructure initiative bringing arts organizations, governments, funders and community partners together around a shared facility.

Her work spans governance, financing, partnership development, risk and decision coordination, and Indigenous and community engagement. The initiative requires alignment across organizations with different mandates, capacities and interests while moving a complex acquisition and redevelopment from vision through planning and implementation.
